Scannable: A New Mobile Scanning App from masters project Evernote. Posted by Jeremy Brand Yuan on 08 Jan 2015. Posted by Jeremy Brand Yuan on thesis, 08 Jan 2015. Given how much the modern workflow relies on mobile devices, mobile scanning needs to be better. Project! Mobile document scanning doesn’t happen in a vacuum — one way or another it’s part of a larger process in your life that a scanning app should speed up, not slow down.
Done well, a great scanning app should emphasize action, not archiving. It should be about the words on the paper, not the paper itself. That’s why we’re happy to thesis class, introduce Scannable. Available for iPhone and iPad, Scannable is designed to masters project, scan and share fast because those receipts and documents don’t belong in your camera roll. Mobile scanning at its best. Scannable is fast.
Point the thesis latex class, app at your receipt, business card, or document, and Scannable captures it. Masters Project! No buttons. No fussing with edges. No tweaking color. It’s all automatic. Once scanned, each image is queued to a tray within the capture window, making it easy to quickly review or chain together multiple scans. From card to contact, instantly. A business card is fnn coursework about the masters, person, not the paper.
Whatever it is we do with a card today, it doesn’t get us any closer to the individual. We may stash the fnn coursework, card in masters project vs thesis a drawer, possibly never to be seen again. Reasons For The! We may even take a photo of it, which gets us a picture of a piece of paper. Project! Neither are very helpful in establishing an actual relationship. Shouldn’t there be a better way to elevate the human from the paper? Enter Scannable. Scannable is the business card wingman that knows the card is fnn coursework significant only vs thesis, because of the essay magazine name, information it holds. While the vs thesis, paper is trivial, its words are full of potential. Once you connect to fnn coursework, Evernote and masters project vs thesis LinkedIn, Scannable immediately digitizes every business card you scan.
It takes that information and adds in details from essay name your contact’s LinkedIn profile, including a photo, so you’ll always be able to put a face to project, the name. Essays Tips! Instantly save the person to your contact list and feel free to ditch the paper entirely (we won’t tell anyone). Scannable makes it so that there is never a ‘now what?’ moment. It’s designed with your destinations in mind, so that a scan never gets stuck in your camera roll unless you want it to be. Once sent, your scan tray is for the french essays cleared so that you can begin the next session with a fresh start. While building Scannable, we wanted to simultaneously improve the desktop scanning experience behind our amazing scanner, the ScanSnap Evernote Edition. In doing so, we thought about masters vs thesis office scanning and asked why all-in-one office scanners made group scanning so clunky. We wondered whether it was possible to do away with the latex class, tangles of vs thesis, cable, the shared local storage drives, and the keypad inputs entirely. As it turns out, it is. Scannable allows anyone in the office to simply connect the app to the ScanSnap Evernote Edition over WiFi.
Scans appear right on their mobile device, streamlining the process entirely. Simply walk up, drop documents in, tap your phone, and walk away. The two pair together to provide a cheaper, faster alternative to current workplace solutions. It’s the best one-two office scanning combo available, period. Check it out in the Evernote Market. Paper smart, not paperless. We understand how important paper is to getting work done.

Scannable is the next step in how we approach paper and productivity, and we think you’ll love it. Check it out and tips let us know what you think in masters vs thesis the comments. Upgrade for features to help you live and work smarter. When Evernote it’s gonna launch the iOS and Android App at the same time. The Android users always have to wait for the good Stuff. #128577; The development tools are not as streamlined with Android as they are with iOS. Constitution Dbq Essay! With iOS, apps, thoughts and masters vs thesis ideas can quickly and efficiently become reality. Not that Android is a bad platform, it just takes a little more time and effort. Essays Tips! It will be out soon #128578; I get iOS is ‘easy’, but you make your Android customers feel like second class citizens.
Disappointing you can’t allocate resources to develop for multiple platforms and project vs thesis launch together. Ie Mba Tips! I don’t like being a second class customer! Ugh. Masters Project Vs Thesis! Stop whining and get an iPhone. Agreed. Evernote is ignoring the constitution, larger market in not releasing for both platforms. I use Evernote every day, which is masters project vs thesis why I became a premium member but it is frustrating that all the new tools come out for i-products first and then it is a long time — it seems — before the tools are available for ie mba essays, Windows and Android. I don’t think they are ignoring the larger market. I would wager there are more iOS users of their product. Android may have the overall larger market share, but with Evernote. I use both platforms and masters vs thesis wish they would add their handwriting notes to iOS.
That is a significant Android app advantage. There are many Android scanning equivelants. Personally, I use CS Scanner and find it provides a superior scan. Almost two months now… Of course there are MORE IOS users… it only works on IOS… Reminds me of surveys at Apple conventions asking “who prefers Apple products?” At any rate.. I have went with a competitor. From your community forum: Posted 06 May 2015 – 02:34 PM. Since we released Scannable in January, we’ve received lots of questions about a potential Android version. Although we don’t usually comment on our product roadmaps, I wanted to share our thinking here.
We’re thrilled with the early positive response that Scannable has received and we are eager to bring it to more people. We’re still in the early phases of the product – each version involves rapid experimentation and significant code changes as we learn. There’s a lot about fnn coursework Scannable that we love, but there’s also a lot that we want to change to see if we can make the experience better. This process is one that is most efficiently done on one platform, so that’s where we’ll be for the time being. So for now, the short answer to “When will Scannable come to vs thesis, Android?” is still “We don’t know yet.” We’ll update the community as soon as we know more.
Thanks for your continued support! P.J. from the Scannable Team. It’s now December of 2015, still no Scannable for Android. What does “It will be out dbq essay, soon” mean? And, it’s been more than a year now and masters still no Scannable for Android… but hey, it seems the integrated document scanner of the dbq essay, Evernote App got a really nice update including the detection and adjustment features. Masters! Very nice! #128578; whats the difference on this and ie mba the evernote camera except the UI? The scannable app detects and adjust instantly. I had the masters project vs thesis, same question ! However, if you think that non-Evernote users might download the app, come to like it and cornell thesis latex class see that they can upload the files to Evernote, this might be just another channel to masters, convert people over to a free account in Evernote and then later on to Premium. In addition to french revolution essays, that, after using Scannable for masters, a couple of minutes, there are some slight benefits of using Scannable over the built-in Evernote camera: it seems that you’re able to fine tune the cropping of the document/image prior to saving it, where in Evernote you can only do that afterwards and you’re limited with basic cropping of the image. Also, Scannable has the link with Scanscap, which might be a plus or not, depending on whether you own one or not. Again another UX.
Again different functionality (read: no support at all) on different platforms. Again a seperate product where the flagships lacks this kind of features. Again Evernote did what it always does… lacking focus. Besides that, it seems like a nice little product… that should have been ‘abstracted’ from the main Evernote client, available with the same overall UX on all platforms and devices. Further to fnn coursework, @nuno’s reply, scannable generates a PDF qhich can be multi page or single page whereas Evernote snaps each page as an image. I require both at different times, so I’m using both (I’ve been a beta tester for scannable; I can’t live without it!)
I cannot get to masters project vs thesis, generate pdf’s, only JPEG… coming to Android soon, I hope? What we think? That premium users that don’t have iOS devices are second class citizens. We pay the same amount than iOS users but we don’t have the same level of support or applications. I get the frustration of Android and Windows Phone users. I use iOS devices, but my wife — who runs a business — uses and name Android device.
She can use these features on masters, her iPad, but her phone is with her more often than a tablet. Something tells me that EN user data shows a heavy concentration of users accessing the app with iOS devices. Nevertheless, there are plenty of Android users that deserve the same features, particularly premium (paying) members. At the very least, it would be good to clarify whether Android and ie mba tips Windows Phone users can expect to see this app, as well as whether all the features convey. Masters! I’ve noticed a number of things that are in the main EN app for iOS devices that are not included in the Android version. It just seems kind of silly for this to still be an issue in 2015. Why the Android users always have to wait? I feel like second class citizens. Non-iOS user? Move along, nothing to see here…
Why not even a mention of tips, other platforms? Should we assume this is an iOS only release, or that Android (and others) will see it in masters project the next year or so? Note evernote dev comments above about development lifecycle for iOS being faster than Android – not a criticism of Android but a fact of the dev tools provided for each mean that iOS allows faster development. If Android takes longer to develope, they they should start Android development earlier, instead of making it an excuse. That a project management deficiency. Android deployments far outnumber iOS. Dbq Essay! It doesn’t make sense on any level to dis that audience. Adding all ScanSnap support would be incredible. Masters Project! Like for myself I have an iX500 and love it, but I won’t be buying the dedicated Evernote one just to have this functionality. Please add support.
I’m with you Cody. I have the essay, ScanSnap S1500M and would like the app to talk to it too. I have both the ix100 and ix500 so count me in too. +1 on compatibility Android + non-Evernote SnapScan IX500 (Premium Evernote user in Europe, so no Evernote Snapscan versoin available to me) And where exactly is the Android version for the less cool users? I agree with the masters, other posts.
Need it for Android too! I own a Mac, and an Android phone. I pay for premium, and only get *some* features that premium subscribers get. The biggest disappointment with Evernote is constitution their lack on continuity between OS/web/mobile. Yes, designing for all systems is hard, but that’s why we pay the premium price tag. I have to admit, this does feel second class that android gets sloppy seconds (or nothing in this case)
EN has favored IOS over Android since day 1. Masters Vs Thesis! I guessing everyone at EN has Mac and iPhones. Android people never get past the interview. Seems lately they want to be like Apple, more marketing and less substance. Essay Magazine Name! Everything in the EN Marketplace is insanely expensive for what it is. When someone comes along and competes and supports Android, hopefully EN will wake up before it’s too late. Since I’m ranting – “Chat” in EN. Project Vs Thesis! Seriously? Run out of things to do?
The new feature list must be completely done because there aren’t enough chat clients out there. /rant. What Wayne said… VERY true. I am using windows phone, so I am even not second but third class user. I often cannot believe that there are new “features” implemented instead of reasons, getting the platforms on the same level.
Maybe Evernote wants to hire me as a Windows phone developer. Exactly my thoughts on the “Chat” feature. Vs Thesis! Really? We need this. Fnn Coursework! I get the vs thesis, IOS bias though, I think they are serving up their largest market first, but it would be nice if they then pursued parity with Android instead of adding useless chat features. -1 for EN apple fan boys. Another disappointed Android EN Premium user. Fnn Coursework! Sounds great, guys you should at least let us know if we can expect to masters vs thesis, see it down the line. Matt. I don’t understand why people get so frustrated over platform specific features. Cornell Latex Class! When I signed up for Evernote Premium, there was no mention that Scannable would ever exist.
To me, it’s an awesome bonus. Additionally, it has always seemed wise, from a business perspective, to develop for Apple first. With iOS, they have a limited number of variables to account for, compared with the widely varying options available for masters vs thesis, Android users. Latex! Develop a stable build on a reliable platform, then move on to the more complex task. As a long-time Mac user, I always felt like a Windows app arriving on Mac OS was a gift, an exciting change, rather than a deserved recompense after years of neglect. Project! I don’t people should complain about not receiving things they were never promised at sign-up, though encouraging the company to listen to user demands will always be valuable for both parties. Jared, I think the on relational uncertainty, rub has less to do with features not promised when people signed up, but missing out on features introduced subsequent to joining — particularly when those features are made available to iOS users who similarly had not expectation of masters project vs thesis, new features. As I stated further up, EN must be relying on some data that drives them to develop for iOS. It’s not always first, it can be exclusively.
There were features in Hello on iOS that never made it into the Android app. Finally, I think the point about variables with Android is an old argument. Most Android devices run on a version of the OS that supports the features. Ie Mba! Given that Apple now supports four different screen sizes with phones, the fragmentation line is getting even more passe. Well said Jared. Sad! You should switch to Android first. What was wrong with the project, scan (camera) functions in Evernote? Why a need for a separate app?
You can easily (as in directly) share to other apps from scannable, as this is a specific function app, it is super quick to tips, get your documents scanned and on the way. Exactly. As an Android user, I’m not that upset over the developers only releasing it for iOS because I don’t think the app offers a functionality missing from the current documents camera, save for ScanSnap connectivity. Scannable serves a differnt purpose from the photo component of the EN app. For one, it generates PDFs instead of images. And it’s standalone and vs thesis allows a different kind of sharing. Yes, I originally asked the dbq essay, same questions as you, but after testing scannable for a couple of masters project, months now I’d be lost without it – and I still use the essay name, EN app camera extensively, but for different tasks. The built in doc scanner for masters, Android app is extremely buggy. I got to fnn coursework, this thread today because I can’t take it anymore. It’s fickle, working some days and others completely AWOL when it comes to capturing one or more doc pix.
I’d trade EN Chat for masters project, a solidly working doc scanner any day of the week and then some. Bugs me that I have to go to a 3rd party app to do what EN should have nailed the first time. I agree it seems silly that there isn’t even a cursory mention of a roadmap for other platforms (especially premium users), however something for essays tips, non-iOS users to consider is that YOU made the choice to select that platform when you purchased the device. You knew there would be more scattered and slower support for a more fragmented OS… especially for masters project vs thesis, NEW products. If you didn’t know that, that’s your responsibility for not doing your homework. I could use a BlackBerry and say the thesis latex, same thing. It’s disheartening to see people constantly complain about others’ choices without taking any responsibility for masters project, their own. You knew there would be more scattered and slower support for a more fragmented OS… especially for cornell thesis latex class, NEW products. Perhaps it is masters time to for the essays, stop that. Or maybe EN could reduce the android subscription fee to allow for those of project vs thesis, us (who made the bad choice you think we made) who are getting the lesser product?
83% market share suggests EN are missing the point with their constant dev in iOS and utter neglect of android. Why reduce the subscription fee for Android? As a fragmented development environment it costs developers *more* to make apps. I read a while ago that one large app developer (can’t remember who, but it was not Evernote but was a similar size) said they have to test on 100 different android devices – and that just covers the ‘mainstream’ devices, not the cheapo no-name devices – to ensure compatibility. iOS simply does not have that problem. And you want android development to fnn coursework, cost less to the end user? Your comment above suggests you have personally have been testing for MONTHS on vs thesis, ios, and thesis latex the blog announcement doesn’t even mention the largest user base for mobile?
Give me a break. Fragmentation? blah blah blah is all anyone hears. The dev comments about development tools are also nonsense, I suspect it is only that they are more familiar with the iOS environment. Other companies are more than capable of developing for android, and EN is being left behind. I doubt that anyone makes a purchase of a smartphone or tablet solely based on whether EN is project vs thesis going to for the french revolution, support and develop for masters, their particularly operating system. Further, I think that most people would work on tips, the assumption that since EN is masters available on tips, Android, the company would keep its primary app, and other tie-in apps, current and just as feature-rich on masters project, Android as iOS. There is french essays kernel of project vs thesis, truth in what you said, but in reverse order.
Interestingly, I think that EN keeps you locked into tips, iOS once you become accustomed to getting new apps and features. I came from an Android device to iOS and masters have thought about going back. There are enough apps on iOS that are either exclusive or cross-platform but updated first that likely will keep me on iOS. I don’t get the frustration with iOS toward people using Android devices, who simply want parity in the app experience. Free or premium, the features should be the same, or don’t offer it on essays on relational uncertainty, platforms other than iOS if you’re going to consistently give short-shrift to people (faithful EN users) on Android or Windows Phone. No Android? Sad… I use a Mac at masters work but ALL my home devices are Android/PC.
Aside from the obvious affront that the essays uncertainty, web-app being hundreds of times better than the desktop version is… I really wish Android users weren’t an afterthought. I just played with it and was really impressed. It’s automatic mode worked very well and did a spectacular job in my (albeit limited) test case. Overall I’m very happy with it and it solves real problems for me (documents that I can’t get the vs thesis, scansnap to scan because they are bound or odd sizes or I’m just away from said scansnap) I’ve been an EverNote user since it was a paid Windows XP (Tablet Edition) application.
I remain a Premium user but the lack of any focus on Android apps may finally drive me to on relational uncertainty, OneNote. I am very disappointed with EverNote’s direction. I’ve downloaded the masters vs thesis, app and played with it with a few notes, forms, and receipts. Essay Magazine Name! So far I’m pretty impressed. I really liked the doc scanner built into masters project vs thesis, the Evernote app itself, but I think I’m going to like this better. ?he Scannable will come for android, and if so ever; Also anoid, premium user but android on the phone. Are android user second class? Or better second class premium user? Dear Android users, check Scanbot same basic idea better and more flexible App.
Free #128578; Thanks for the Tip. Really great app and sync with EN. Thanks for this tip. Going to try it. Noticed what seems to be a small bug in Scannable. Magazine Name! Scanned a receipt on my iPhone 6+ using Scannable.
Captured the receipt fine, and I was able to send it right to masters project, my Evernote account. Essays Uncertainty! I added a tag but when I tried to change the vs thesis, “title” (it seems to autogenerate to “Scanned document”) I could not “see” the cursor and the title anywhere on the page. I typed it in name “blind” and it worked, but I could not “see” the title to delete “scanned document” and properly re-name it. When will Evernote release a Android version? App works well and I like it. One issue – why does the scan show up as an attachment on a note? I’d like to click a note and it show the image. It works this way with the masters, camera feature in the EN app. If the scannable image shows up as an attachment that requires more clicks to view, then this is not an constitution, improvement. Project Vs Thesis! Any way to change this?
It shows as an attachment because it’s a PDF. The app generates a JPG, which displays in-line. This is the review I just left. Color me impressed. I am a heavy Evernote user and I use the excellent iOS app all the time.
I frequently snap documents, post-its, white board sketches, and what I call “Napkin-CAD” using the iOS app and have found it to work flawlessly. Cornell Thesis! Why then do I need a mono-tasker app like this, I asked. I got back from a party tonight and, new business cards in hand, I figured “what the heck… I’ll try it.” Let me tell you that I was a convert from the second this little magic app located my new acquaintances on LinkedIn, added properly formatted entries into my contacts including a freaking photo, and then let me fire off an email to each of them in seconds. I love the feature that prevents my photo roll from vs thesis getting cluttered with receipts photos. I love the streamlined user experience of contact addition. Finally, I love my new secret weapon: Scannable by Evernote. Thanks to all the ie mba essays, developers that sweated the masters project vs thesis, details in this gorgeous and fluid user experience. Essay Magazine Name! Take it from someone that knows: programming something “simple” is masters project vs thesis VERY complex. Your efforts shine through. Well done.
Wow, it’s amazing how heavily in favor of the essay magazine name, Android the comments are, and the fact that no one at masters project Evernote has bothered to say anything at all here. Essay Name! You guys, this is YOUR blog. Do you even read the comments yourself? It seems that they don’t care. When Oh When is Evernote going to masters, release the Android App at the same time as the ie mba essays tips, iOS App – I am a Premium user and masters project vs thesis I do not like the fact that Evernote is cornell thesis continuously releasing iOS and not Android. i need its android version. I have tested the app today and it is project very easy to essay magazine, use, but I prefer to attach scanned documents/recipe/photos etc as a pdf file. Will that be a possibility in new versions? Love the project, app – it would be perfect if I could launch it from the fnn coursework, Today screen.
Reading all the Android complaints asking for a reduced fee it seems they do not see the point: Following them any new feature or app should make the project, EN Premium *more expensive*. Every user pays the 5$/month for the state of the art, as I do since 2011. And I remember when there were features for the Windows users that we, the Mac people, had to wait and wait and wait. This never reduced the value of my EN account. I’ll add my voice to the rest who want an Android version of the essays tips, app. sorry..but I love the feature where I can take a photo in Evernote and just send instead of typing the entire whiteboard. Vs Thesis! Scanning would be cool but Evernote is still a great collective of all information. Cornell Latex! Yes, android is a second or after or non-thought but when they give us that feature it will be great! I completely understand the angst of Android users, but here is what is going on. Masters Project! (I am a 100% Mac / iOS user, btw). Although Android has a much higher installed base, it is a fragmented one, whereas most iOS users are in the current version.
This makes it easier for developers to develop for a big audience quickly. What is going to happen is that loyalties will shift from devices to apps, as more specialized devices become more ubiquitous. We’ll all no longer be “Apple-loyal” or “Samsung-loyal” or even “iOS-loyal”, but app-loyal. Personally, I am “Evernote-loyal”, “Scannable-loyal”, “Livescribe-loyal”, “Noteshelf-loyal” and “Waze-loyal”. (Note the loyalty to Noteshelf, not Penultimate.) There will be pressure on all of us to pick our devices that run the apps we want. Complaining about ie mba essays tips app developers not supporting our chosen platform is masters project going to be less and cornell thesis less effective, but it is perfectly understandable. I’m sorry, but I have to agree with the others…These comments are strongly calling for Android functionality. And, I have to add that if you’re 100% Apple/Mac/iOS world, how do you even know what the current state Android fragmentation is? With the first release of Android 4.0, Google was addressing the masters, issue of fnn coursework, fragmentation.
All formats could run the project, same version of dbq essay, Android. That was *3 years* ago now! For more than a year, 90% or more of Android marketshare was on Android 4.0 or above. Project Vs Thesis! Now, it’s closer to 100%. So, that means, developing for this one platform gives you functional access to hundreds of devices – and paying users begging for Android to be supported is a bug clue that they want the treatment as iOS users. The previous poster who talked about reading about the cost of development for Android due to fragmentation, well the essay, key to what he said was in vs thesis the comment he shared…awhile ago I read… Yeah, *awhile* ago. The fragmentation excuse just doesn’t hold water any more. Cornell! The numbers bear that out. So do user requests. I know of two other major development teams who develop for both Android and masters iOS. Both say it’s easier to develop for Android.
They also cite much easier updates and that in constitution order to try to masters project vs thesis, release the apps closer together, they have to submit the iOS app months before the release due to Apple’s long approval process. All I’m saying is that gives months after submitting the essay name, iOS app to be working on one for Android – and masters project vs thesis still release together. One of the fnn coursework, developers stopped trying to bring both platforms out at the same time because they felt it was unfair for masters, Android users to have to wait for the iOS approval before their Android app was released. It’s clear, Evernote favors iOS. They have tons of fnn coursework, customers saying they don’t feel that’s the way it should be. Equal cost for both platforms should have real features. It’s part of masters, what Evernote touts add their strength, cross platform support and thesis latex accessing your files from anywhere.
Only the platform support is warped in favor of iOS. I’m not sure they are even reading these comments, and masters project vs thesis the one post that mentioned Android basically said don’t expect to see it. I’m not OK with that. Saying that we shouldn’t want features that are available in the Evernote platform because they weren’t available when we signed up is also unreasonable…because when I signed up, the price was lower. Essays Tips! As far as I’m concerned, Evernote needs to project vs thesis, earn that price hike by bringing out new functions available to iOS and Android alike. To assume that everyone should be happy with the functions of a service to remain static because that’s what was offered when we signed up, just isn’t thinking globally. Constitution Dbq Essay! Other companies, services and masters platforms *are* adding features and improving. I expect that from essay any tech company. And I’ll repeat, they raised their prices…that should come with additional features. I know there’s now a cheaper tier, but the things I need Evernote to do such as make all pdfs searchable, is still only found on premium, which now costs more.
Add my voice as multiple requests for project, the same functionality on Android add iOS – because our multi Evernote Premium user family will never own an essays tips, idevice. In the meantime, I’ll start looking at alternatives to masters, Evernote as a previous poster suggested. Other platforms are working hard for constitution, Android users’ business and catching up with Evernote’s functionality. Project! Maybe it’s time to give then a proper look and leave Evernote to their iUsers. i need the app for android. I like it a lot, with one complaint so far: when I save to constitution, Evernote, I can pick the notebook but (as far as I can tell) can’t add tags. FastEver Snap, which I’ve been using up until now, allows tagging. Masters! For me that’s huge. Is there a way to tag noted off of essay magazine name, Scannable?
I agree, it’s annoying not to be able to project, tag. I have to sync on my computer and then add the tags, so that’s an extra step I didn’t really want. Is this just another entry into the myriad ways that evernote has offered to scan business cards? Let me know when you plan to stick with one and constitution make it work well! Where can I find the Android version? I tried using Scannable App to scan a business card and vs thesis it is quite frustrating actually – it will find the full profile on LinkedIn, picture included, but when you save it to contacts, it won’t save the full profile but just bits of it. Am I doing anything wrong? Seriously? No android?
Come on, please! Any idea whether Scannable scans to PDF rather than to image? yes, you can choose between PDFs and images in the settings. So all you”Android” users are all in a snit that you dont get some of the fnn coursework, EN stuff at same time as Apple? My my my, not so long ago, did Apple have this stereotype of masters vs thesis, being the system that could not keep up with Windows or PC or those other guys… Couldn’t get all the same software, as those “other guys” Etc. Etc. “DON’T BUY AN APPLE, THEY GOT NOTHING ” statement was heard all over the land.. For The Revolution! Did those other Operating systems care about Apple supporters? Oh no… Well now, you can see how it feels.. Time to masters vs thesis, get with the real world..
Get AN APPLE..lol.. I have had Android and it was fine, couldn’t get back to Apple quick enough.. but as much as everyone says Android is ie mba essays so great, tweakable and all that other crap that Android is masters project supposed to be able to do, IT AIN’T APPLE.. You want the magazine name, best, want to be treated the best, then get the best. Masters Project Vs Thesis! Don’t complain when your “Android” isn’t considered “top of mind ” by essays the developers.. It is just business with these guys.
Hey AN APPLE and you move to the front of the line………. Rant over….hehe. Android! Android! Android! Please do not cater only to fans of project, Apple! Thank you Evernote for another great product. Will there be a Scannable widget for iOS8? At the moment, I use Evernote’s widget to quickly capture docs and receipts, but Scannable certainly seems more convenient. I tried to download but it is only for iOs 8. Mine is a little outdated. #128577; It is really good. but should be needed ‘Silence mode’ when capturing, because It will almost be used in magazine Office, Library and Reading room.
So, Could you support ‘Silence mode’? Push the ringer switch to off. I just started using scannable on my iphone. Every document I scan is stored as a photo, is it possible to masters vs thesis, save as a PDF ?? Can you tell me how to save the contents of a scanned business card into iPhone contacts? I have no problem scanning the card.
I then try to fnn coursework, “assign to contact” and masters it brings me to my contacts but there is essays on relational no way to add any information. Thanks! I switched to iOS from android over 3 years ago because most developers create for iOS first (whatever the reasons). I hate to be harsh, but you all have to get over it. Masters Project! This is how it works right now. If you want the latest and greatest, get an iPhone. I think the real question is, did EN just give away one of there premium features for free?
Wasn’t unlimited business card scanning a feature you could only get as a premium user (I think you got 5 scans per month for free)? How do premium users feel about that? A question apart from the Android drama…. I’m a longtime EN user, first time iPhone owner. Cornell Latex Class! I was just going to get started scanning my mountains of business cards into EN using the CameraBusiness Card option within iPhone EN. What are the advantages of Scannable? It seems all of the masters project vs thesis, functionality (related to essays tips, business cards) is already in project vs thesis Evernote. I just downloaded scannable and it’s working perfectly! Thanks so much to the developing team for creating such a great application. I love the app, but whenever I use it to latex, scan business cards, only the project vs thesis, primary email and french essays phone number actually get imported into my contacts. All emails and fax numbers show on the contact sheet in the app, but once I save to contacts, half of the information disappears.
Is there a way to fix this? This is a nice idea but boy does it need some more development! – Business cards workflow is not easy to understand. You have to go through an odd workflow to save a contact to iPhone contacts. Masters Project Vs Thesis! Not sure you can connect on LinkedIn. The Evernote app is far, far better at this. – The document scan doesn’t produce as clean documents from paper notes (i.e. meeting notes) – they are more photo like than those from the Evernote app. – The interface is again different from ie mba essays tips other EN apps which means it’s difficult to understand what’s going on. I like the project vs thesis, instant access to the camera and no need to click the camera to capture a doc.
What happens after that… not so good. Keep up the good work – looking forward to v1.1. Yeah, EN early adopter here. Business Premium member. Fnn Coursework! And Die hard Android user. I own the masters vs thesis, Evernote Scansnap. forever disappointed in this proprietary bullshit in the context of reasons for the revolution, a company that says “It’s your data”.
iOS is the silly sandbox. Still waiting as usual. Waiting especially for document tagging. paper size is not an masters vs thesis, intelligent design. When are we going to ie mba, have keyword recognition for classification ? come on – break open the box! A real time saver, thanks guys! I Would like to masters, start with congratulations, best scanner I’ve used and definitely the fnn coursework, quickest. Glad I gave up on android for ios as I’m delighted to have this app. One change I would like.
I often have to send clients e-mails of the move of scanned documents and they often call with “I don’t seem to be able to open the attachment, can you send a different format”. A radio button / tick box for different formats, so I could send a in a couple of vs thesis, different formats would stop these calls for a resend in a different format. I would also like to select that the for the french revolution essays, image goes to an e-mail and project Evernote at the same time. I’m a busy guy and appreciate anything that saves time. If it costs the same for people that have Androids and people that have IPhones and pay for premium then you should release the apps at the same time. my scannable app is generating jpegs, not pdfs.
Looking forward to the Android version! I like the fnn coursework, scannable app. Masters Vs Thesis! But it needs to include the ability to add tags before shipping it off to Evernote. I downloaded the app because using the thesis class, Evernote camera crashed the Evernote app. Scannable works great, but I have to go to masters project vs thesis, the note once it appears in Evernote and add tags then. It would be better to add tags at camera click. #128578; iOs only launches for apps is a true modern day sign of douchebaggery at it’s finest. Argue all you want, excluding an alternative platform is akin to saying your web site only supports IE6 back in the day. Sad. Next time someone tells me how much better their ‘droid is than my iPhone, I’m sending them over constitution dbq essay here to listen to all the f’ing whining going on. Wah wah wah, where’s the Android version. *sniff* Get over it.
I’m so over this Android victimization I see every time something comes to iOS first. It’s simple physics: First, repeated surveys of app analytics have shown that iOS users spend more money on apps than Android users. It makes more financial/business sense to target them first. The larger worldwide user base of Android is a non-factor, so let’s stop wasting everyone’s time by bringing that into masters project, the conversation. Second, look at essay magazine what the masters vs thesis, Scannable app does from constitution a purely functional standpoint: It uses the CAMERA on your MOBILE DEVICE to project vs thesis, take a PICTURE of a document, which is fnn coursework then DIGITALLY MORPHED AND TRANSLATED into something coherent that’s ready for OCR processing.
Scannable for iOS requires devices that can run iOS 8+, and is optimized for masters project vs thesis, the iPhone 5 and up. That’s four different phones with four different cameras. Given Apple’s penchant for fnn coursework, streamlining production, those same four cameras are also used in the iPads the app supports. Now what’s easier for an app developer? Optimizing a new app to project vs thesis, work with four different cameras, or (according to the reports last August), the nearly 19,000 Android devices out there? That’s before we consider that almost 80% of those devices were running a version of Android that (at best) hadn’t seen an for the revolution, update since July 2013. Maybe that’s why the state of Android is “the most fragmented it’s ever been.” http://opensignal.com/reports/2014/android-fragmentation/
If you want to use an Android device, fine. That’s your choice. Masters Vs Thesis! But don’t complain about the consequences of your choice to join a severely fragmented system, which occasionally means you don’t get to be the fnn coursework, first person in project vs thesis the party. Let’s be honest here. Who has the larger share of the smartphone market out of the two? That’s right, it’s Android. Dbq Essay! I agree, releases should be simultaneous no matter the project, platform, but if you want to please the most people out of the gate, go with the user base that is currently dominating the market. I’ve noticed a few questions about how to save as PDF rather than JPEG. Essays! There is masters vs thesis a settings icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen when the camera is “looking for document”. If you open settings, you will see a “File Format” option, which allows you to cornell thesis, choose PDF, among others.
Thanks for sharing this Scannable tip, Nick. Good discussion . I was enlightened by the facts – Does someone know How to project, Save as PDF? Great app, hopefully will be ready for Android soon!, I do have an iPad but is not my main tablet, nor device, I prefer Samsung devices. Scanning receipts is one thing…but creating a report that can be submitted is on relational another. There is still a missing piece. Scannable is project vs thesis wonderful when it’s not crashing. I paid for premium and can scan 4-5 items before the app becomes unresponsive, shuts down and ie mba essays is inaccesible. After that, there’s no solution but to delete and reinstall the app. That becomes “old” very fast.
I hate that the resultant Evernote notes for business cards are not really editable — for example, I cannot add a picture. I’ve been an IOS user since day 1. Masters! Recently I got a galaxy note 4. Still have ipad. I’ve been an evernote user since day one too. I find myself asking this 1 question. Fnn Coursework! Why neglect any share of a (excuse the pun) mobile market? I can be on masters project, IOS today and an android tomorrow. Truth is my business runs better on essays, Android and masters vs thesis thus my employees get Android. Evernote is critical for my maintenence company. But alas me, my business AND my staff get penalized for not being IOS users rather than rewarded for being premium evernote users.
I can’t believe there is no scannable app for android yet. Please, at least give us a release date. Scannable app does not loading in magazine name iPhone 6, ios 8.2. – I have several reports that was scanned and i can’t get those. – I have installed the latest update though it didn’t resolve my problem. Microsoft Released Their Office Lens for iPhone and Android. Which is much better.
I’ve been using Microsoft Lens and it does an amazing job. Great at conference where I can snap a shot of the screen and it automatically corrects the massive keystoning so that perfect rectangle. And, because it’s an vs thesis, Android app, just click share and it’s in Evernote. Any chance for an iOS SDK for the scanning technology? This new feature is super annoying. While I’m turning the pages of a stapled article or flipping to get the right page of book the thing is constitution off scanning random stretches of wall, desk, pictures of my laptop, etc., etc.
Nice pop art pieces though they may be, I have to go back through and delete them. I’ve tried to get it to stop and wait for me to masters, get ready to scan what I want but so far has been unsuccessful. Essays! I’ve been loyal to Evernote ever since a co-worker told me about it and have even gone to the fee-based version. This is how you repay me? OneNote’s starting to look interesting… Love the evernote and project scannable app on IOS… really want it on android. Its ao helpfull.
Why not integrate this into Evernote? I’m on Windows and Android and latex would love to have straight to PDF scanning available on my Android device which I use to scan all my documents. Masters Project! Why does this need to be a separate IOS only app?? a SDK for Scannable would be invaluable. I can’t find an SDK for the same kind of technology (auto detect edges and snap) anywhere. I already installed the scannable and Evernote and it is great for cornell latex class, my biz. I faced a bad problem and need help. I was exporting the scanned docs to an app but at the end I stopped it and vs thesis pressed cancel! Now there’s no docs in scannable and constitution dbq essay seems I lost them all. Please help me how to have them back or let me know wether they stored automatically somewhere in my iPhone!? I’ve used the app and find it quite good, but there doesn’t seem to be a useable interface unless I’m missing something.
Can’t get back to masters project, the start. Essays Uncertainty! My iphone keeps getting stuck on the screen where it is looking for a document to scan. No amount of tapping icons, shaking the phone, swiping or tapping the screen does anything. Help! I have scannable love it love it love it however I am trying to scan older pics.
The program keeps saving them as post its, I’m sure it’s probably something simple but I’m lost! Thanks! When should we hope that the Android app will be launched? Enough already – get out the Android version already, or admit that you don’t support Android — this is a key feature of Evernote and its omission is the primary reason I don’t use Evernote. I am an Android user and masters share many of the same frustrations expressed in essays the comments.
To the comments about how it’s easier to project vs thesis, develop for iOS first, I feel like that’s any easy “out”. For a company who’s product is touted as being cross-platform, that capability ought to trump other factors (like adding Chat or other features). I’m actually pretty impressed by MSFT, which is now doing a great job of making its software cross-platform. Their release of dbq essay, Office Lens for both Android and project iOS make it clear that if a company really wants to focus on cross-platform support, it’s eminently doable. Yes, MSFT is obviously a much bigger company than Evernote. But that just means that Evernote should prioritize its main functionality (cross-platform support) rather than adding multiple additional features (like Chat). I’m a big Evernote fan and user but at the rate things are going, I may well be saying the same thing about OneNote in latex class the not-so-distant future.
I’m an Evernote premium user and vs thesis own 3 android devices. When will you release an android version for this app? I have been using scannable for about 6 months now, at first I was blown away but quickly that feeling of ie mba, amazement became frustration. I rarely get the scan right and it fails to scan properly in a first attempt, it keeps “looking for pages to scan” on my iphone 6+ and vs thesis it often scans half a page (even docs without images. In short, I have to manually fix and crop the scans when its done. very clumsy app unfortunately. why not integrate it with the essay magazine, original evernote application adding an icon beside the camera button with a document with camera overlapping. What about masters Windows Phone? I like my Phone, i like Windows Phone, i really like Evernote!
I LOVED scannable until about a week ago – was there an update? It now no longer takes forever to automatically snaps the uncertainty, doc and sometimes doesn’t even recognize it correctly and masters project the send feature is finicky. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Please give me my old scannable back! Feature Suggestion: Your comments system would be a lot more effective form of communication if it included date-stamps. Responses to user comments often include references to relative time. These are useless without knowing when the response was posted. May it be Android time, please?
Completely disappointing that Evernote prioritizes iOS (diminishing market) over ie mba essays tips Android (continuously expanding market). I went with CamCard instead of masters project vs thesis, Scannable (which seems to do a better job recognizing white text on dark card backgrounds anyway, and can save to multiple targets simultaneously (Outlook, Gmail, Phone contacts, etc.) Still no news on the Android version! Looks like that have abandoned the reasons french revolution essays, project #128577; Please, please, please consider adding an project vs thesis, app for Android. Cornell Thesis Latex! I have not been particularly happy with Apple, so I hate to buy an Apple Product just to scan to Evernote. My Evernote is indispensible; Apple is not. You know, I wouldn’t even be bothered about Scannable not being available for project, Android if there was an equally capable alternative. Fnn Coursework! But that’s just the masters, thing, there isn’t one! I’ve scoured the constitution, Play Store, downloading and trying every single damn scanning app that I could find.
None of them fits my needs like Scannable did on masters, IOS. The best solution I currently have is constitution Google’s cooked-in scanning solution in the Drive app, though it doesn’t even remotely compare to project, Scannable (plus I had to move from DropBox to Drive, which also sucked). I will honestly pay good money for Scannable (or any equally capable app) on my Android device. I use these things on a daily basis in the office and feel bare without Scannable. Latex Class! All other IOS-exclusive stuff is easily forgotten, with equal or better apps available on the Play Store, but not Scannable though. They just plain got this app right.
Let’s hope for a release date soon (please)! Have been a Premium Member for years and NEVER owned an iphone/ipad. Masters Vs Thesis! I think it could be time to switch to tips, a new note keeping product cos Evernote clearly does not care for the android market. Why not have seperate fees, higher fees for higher service (IOS customers) and project vs thesis lower fees for lower service (Android). Same fees yet entirely different levels of service, product and love. I love Evernote but this could soon be farewell… I must say that after a YEAR of waiting for tips, android version of scannable, I am officially pissed. If the Evernote document camera app would take the project, whole page of my Leuchtturm1917 notebook, that would be OK. But it crops it off to a predetermined size that is not the essays, size of the masters project, page. C’mon Evernote.
Get with it! I encountered the same problem. I have a receipt that Scannable keep missing the top or bottom portion. Waiting for the next release. I currently use Camscanner to profit of the ie mba essays, same functionalities (I assume). Automatic detection of format, resize, auto-contrast and so on. Masters! I hope Scannable will offer more than this.
Over a year later and dbq essay still no Android application. In a time when cross-platform development has gotten so much easier almost to masters project, a ‘click the check box of the os your building for and hit compile’ level of fnn coursework, simplicity, you would think this kind of delay would be a thing of the past. Some sugest that this is because of market share of the users. Well, it makes sense that if you only masters project vs thesis, make things available to essays tips, certain operating systems, that those that use that OS will be the masters project, greater market share of your product. Others suggested that this is a problem because of Android fragmentation. Honestly that can be a bit misleading as well. If you aim for Android 4.4+ You will get a large portion of the Android market. That does make it 3 APIs to ie mba essays tips, write toward, so alternatively could just write to project vs thesis, the latest version (5). The main point would be, if you treated all users the same you might get more paid members from Android. I’m new to Evernote but I’m already an class, evangelist around the office.
I recently switched to Scannable and like it better than the Evernote Scanner with one exception. The Evernote Scanner allows you to send a new business card directly to Outlook Contacts at the same time it goes to Evernote but I do not see that with Scannable. Does it have this capability? Microsoft has Lens which is pretty good. You could even consider moving to OneNote as evernote appear to be a little lazy with their development.
I bought xtra on scannable when i send mail it says server rejected message. Why. I would love a Blackberry version. Can I have a Blackberry version?

Masters project vs thesis: Argumentative essay for julius caesar
What the Molar Mass of masters project vs thesis, Cu Is All About. Some students have difficulties with mathematics and foreign languages, while others have problems with chemistry, but it’s normal. On Relational! That’s because no one is perfect, and it’s hard to know everything for any student. The good news is project vs thesis that there is an effective solution for reasons french revolution essays any major or minor problem, so if you find your chemistry homework, such as calculating the molar mass of Cu, too hard to do, be sure to use certain tips or get professional help. It’s offered by qualified and reputable freelancers, and you easily can get their contact details online. Basically, chemistry can be quite a tricky subject if you don’t know how to vs thesis, tackle it in fnn coursework, the right manner. Project! There are many things that you need to learn to achieve the best results when doing your homework. Think about simplifying this task by thesis, using helpful services offered at quite competitive rates. For all students who learn chemistry, it’s necessary to know that it’s 63.546 g/mol. Masters Project! When completing any assignments that involve this subject, you should get the uncertainty, right knowledge on copper.
It’s a chemical element (Cu) with atomic number 29 (its origin is from Latin cuprum) or it’s a malleable, soft, and masters vs thesis ductile metal that has quite high electrical and thermal conductivity. When it comes to a freshly-exposed surface of essays, its pure form, it has a red or orange color. Copper is vs thesis often used as an effective conductor of electricity and heat, a constituent of different metal alloys, and a building material. This chemical element is found as a pure metal, and keep in mind that it was the first metal used by people. It was mined in Cyprus (in the Roman era), and now its compounds are often encountered as copper salts (green and blue colors). There are many ancient architectural copper structures and decorative art that corrode to green patina. This element is important to all living organisms because it’s a trace dietary mineral and reasons for the french revolution the main constituent of the respiratory enzyme complex. Masters! Besides, it’s found in such body organs as muscles, bones, and ie mba essays tips livers. Different copper compounds are widely used as fungicides, bacteriostatic substances, and wood preservatives nowadays. That’s why it’s essential for all chemistry students to masters, know how to calculate the molar mass of cornell thesis class, Cu. Remember that copper doesn’t react with water, but it slowly reacts with oxygen to form the layers of masters vs thesis, copper oxide.
When copper tarnishes are exposed to sulfides, they react to form different copper sulfides. What about the popular applications of this chemical element? They include roofing, electric wires, plumbing, and industrial machinery, but it’s mostly used in its pure metal form. When more hardness is required, copper can be combined with other chemical elements to make alloys, including bronze and brass. Sometimes, its small part is used to produce specific compounds for fungicides and nutritional supplements.
Its machining is fnn coursework possible, but people need to use alloys for the most intricate parts to guarantee excellent characteristics. Basic Information about a Molar Mass in Chemistry. In this academic discipline, a formula weight is the quantity calculated by multiplying the atomic weights of all elements in a given chemical formula by the number of atoms of these elements, and project vs thesis then adding all of them together. You shouldn’t confuse this term with a molecular mass because they differ, and the latter one is the mass of one molecule of well-defined isotopes. When dealing with bulk stoichiometric calculations, you need to define a molar mass (such as the molar mass of Cu ) and essays it can be called an masters project vs thesis, average atomic mass or a standard atomic weight. If you need to cornell thesis class, find this type of mass, it’s defined with g/mol or units of grams per mole. When you calculate the molecular weight of project vs thesis, chemical compounds, it’s used to tell you how many grams are in 1 mole of a particular substance. So, it’s all about a weight in atomic mass units of all atoms in a specific chemical formula. Fnn Coursework! You can add up to atomic weights and calculate the molecular weight of any substance by masters, using the chemical formulas of essays, different compounds and the periodic table of project vs thesis, elements. Take into account that formula weights are very helpful when determining products in chemical reactions and the relative weight of reagents, but don’t forget that relative weights can be called equation weights if they are calculated from a chemical equation.
There are many chemistry students who use special calculators to cornell, convert grams to moles. To perform this task successfully, you need to get detailed information about the substance that you want to convert (for example, computing the masters project vs thesis, molar mass of cu ). That’s because the molar mass of any substance may affect this conversion. When you use a molecular formula, the formula weight that you calculate is also the essay magazine name, molecular one. What You Should Know about Related Quantities. As you already know, a molar mass is related to a relative molar mass of compounds quite closely. The same can be said for a formula weight and standard atomic masses, but it must be distinguished from masters a molecular mass (or weight), and it’s all about the mass of 1 molecule (in any isotopic composition). Uncertainty! Keep in masters, mind that it’s not related to any atomic mass directly, and essays uncertainty a molar mass has older terms, including a formula or molecular weight. What about a molecular mass? Basically, it’s the mass of any given molecule, and you always need to measure it in project, daltons or atomic mass units. For The French Revolution! Different molecules of the same compounds can have different molecular mass, and that’s because they may contain different isotopes.
A molar mass is the measure used for an average molecular mass of all molecules in samples. When doing your relevant courseworks, you should realize that it’s a more appropriate measure when handling the macroscopic quantities of substances. Finally, molecular masses should be calculated from relative atomic masses of every nuclide, and molar masses must be computed from the atomic mass of every element. Another important detail is that an atomic mass takes into consideration the isotopic distribution of elements in given samples. For any chemistry student, it’s necessary to know the distinction between molecular and masters project vs thesis molar masses. Are you interested in the precision by which molar masses are known to essay, depend on masters when it comes to the precision of atomic masses used to calculate them?
Then you should learn that almost all atomic masses have the precision of 1 part in dbq essay, 10-thousand, and it’s adequate for all standard uses in this discipline because it’s quite precise and exceeds the purity of many lab reagents. However, this kind of project vs thesis, precision is limited by the knowledge of isotopic distributions in constitution dbq essay, chemical elements. If you need a more accurate value of masters vs thesis, molar masses, you must define this distribution, and constitution dbq essay it can be different from the standard one used to compute standard atomic masses. Vs Thesis! If your assignment involves these terms, make sure that it’s written according to existing lab report format guidelines. Remember that the isotopic distributions of chemical elements in samples are not always dependent of one another, and this is essays tips what may complicate the masters, calculation of standard uncertainties in molar masses. Fnn Coursework! One of the most helpful conventions for your lab work is to quote this mass to 2 decimal places for masters project each calculation you make. It will be more accurate than required, but you will succeed to avoid rounding mistakes during chemical calculations.
These important conventions are usually followed in many tabulated values of a molar mass. Atoms are quite small to allow for any meaningful measurement of specific chemical substances. When working with their meaningful amounts, they must be groups into the units called moles. You need to reasons essays, know how to calculate a molar mass to be a successful student and get high grades, so find out more about the following methods. Masters Project Vs Thesis! First, you should start with learning how to calculate the ie mba, molar masses of chemical elements. Understand what a molar mass is all about, and it’s the vs thesis, mass of 1 mole of a given substance calculated in grams. Be sure to use the name, atomic mass of masters, chemical elements and multiply it by g/mol to end up with their molecular mass. You should follow this simple rule in your how to write a reaction paper Find the fnn coursework, relative atomic masses of project, chemical elements, and it’s all about their average masses of all isotopes in a particular sample (in atomic units). These details are easy to found in the periodic table of elements, so be sure to fnn coursework, locate the one you need and masters find its number underneath a symbol (it must have decimals).
Multiply a relative atomic mass by reasons revolution essays, a molar mass constant (and it’s defined in one gram per masters mole). This is how you will convert atomic units to g/mole, but some chemical elements are found in the molecules of two atoms and more. This means that you need to find their relative atomic masses to calculate molar masses. To achieve this goal, it’s necessary to multiply them by a molar mass constant, and then multiply the result you get by two. What if you need to calculate the molar mass of fnn coursework, specific chemical compounds when it comes to your writing a definition essay or any other academic homework? Follow these steps:
Find their chemical formula, and it’s all about the number of atoms in every element included in compounds. The good news is that you can easily find this information in special chemistry reference books. Use this formula to identify the masters project vs thesis, number of atoms of all elements. Find their relative atomic masses by using the periodic table of elements (look for the number located beneath their symbols). French Essays! You also need to multiply their masses by g/mole. Calculate the molar masses of masters project vs thesis, all elements in compounds. You should multiply their atomic masses to end up with the relative amount that every element contributed to a particular compound.

When completing any assignments that involve this subject, you should get the project vs thesis, right knowledge on copper. It’s a chemical element (Cu) with atomic number 29 (its origin is from Latin cuprum) or it’s a malleable, soft, and ductile metal that has quite high electrical and thermal conductivity. When it comes to a freshly-exposed surface of its pure form, it has a red or orange color.
Copper is often used as an effective conductor of constitution dbq essay, electricity and heat, a constituent of different metal alloys, and a building material. This chemical element is masters found as a pure metal, and keep in mind that it was the essay, first metal used by people. Vs Thesis! It was mined in Cyprus (in the Roman era), and now its compounds are often encountered as copper salts (green and blue colors). There are many ancient architectural copper structures and reasons for the french revolution decorative art that corrode to masters project vs thesis, green patina. This element is important to all living organisms because it’s a trace dietary mineral and the main constituent of the tips, respiratory enzyme complex. Besides, it’s found in such body organs as muscles, bones, and livers. Different copper compounds are widely used as fungicides, bacteriostatic substances, and wood preservatives nowadays.
That’s why it’s essential for all chemistry students to know how to calculate the molar mass of Cu. Remember that copper doesn’t react with water, but it slowly reacts with oxygen to form the vs thesis, layers of on relational, copper oxide. When copper tarnishes are exposed to masters project vs thesis, sulfides, they react to form different copper sulfides. What about the popular applications of this chemical element? They include roofing, electric wires, plumbing, and industrial machinery, but it’s mostly used in its pure metal form. When more hardness is reasons for the essays required, copper can be combined with other chemical elements to make alloys, including bronze and brass. Sometimes, its small part is project vs thesis used to produce specific compounds for cornell thesis fungicides and nutritional supplements. Its machining is possible, but people need to use alloys for the most intricate parts to masters project vs thesis, guarantee excellent characteristics. Basic Information about a Molar Mass in Chemistry.
In this academic discipline, a formula weight is the ie mba, quantity calculated by multiplying the atomic weights of all elements in a given chemical formula by masters, the number of atoms of these elements, and reasons for the essays then adding all of masters, them together. Cornell Latex Class! You shouldn’t confuse this term with a molecular mass because they differ, and the latter one is the masters project, mass of one molecule of well-defined isotopes. When dealing with bulk stoichiometric calculations, you need to define a molar mass (such as the molar mass of Cu ) and it can be called an average atomic mass or a standard atomic weight. If you need to find this type of mass, it’s defined with g/mol or units of grams per mole. When you calculate the essay, molecular weight of chemical compounds, it’s used to tell you how many grams are in 1 mole of a particular substance.
So, it’s all about a weight in atomic mass units of all atoms in a specific chemical formula. You can add up to atomic weights and calculate the project, molecular weight of any substance by using the chemical formulas of different compounds and the periodic table of elements. Take into account that formula weights are very helpful when determining products in chemical reactions and the relative weight of reagents, but don’t forget that relative weights can be called equation weights if they are calculated from a chemical equation. There are many chemistry students who use special calculators to convert grams to moles. To perform this task successfully, you need to get detailed information about the substance that you want to convert (for example, computing the molar mass of cu ). That’s because the molar mass of any substance may affect this conversion. Essays Uncertainty! When you use a molecular formula, the project vs thesis, formula weight that you calculate is also the magazine, molecular one. What You Should Know about project Related Quantities. As you already know, a molar mass is related to a relative molar mass of reasons for the revolution, compounds quite closely. Masters! The same can be said for a formula weight and standard atomic masses, but it must be distinguished from cornell thesis a molecular mass (or weight), and it’s all about the mass of 1 molecule (in any isotopic composition). Keep in mind that it’s not related to any atomic mass directly, and a molar mass has older terms, including a formula or molecular weight.
What about a molecular mass? Basically, it’s the mass of any given molecule, and you always need to masters vs thesis, measure it in constitution dbq essay, daltons or atomic mass units. Different molecules of the same compounds can have different molecular mass, and that’s because they may contain different isotopes. A molar mass is the measure used for an average molecular mass of masters, all molecules in samples. Cornell Thesis! When doing your relevant courseworks, you should realize that it’s a more appropriate measure when handling the macroscopic quantities of substances.
Finally, molecular masses should be calculated from relative atomic masses of every nuclide, and molar masses must be computed from the atomic mass of every element. Another important detail is masters vs thesis that an cornell class, atomic mass takes into consideration the isotopic distribution of elements in given samples. For any chemistry student, it’s necessary to know the distinction between molecular and molar masses. Are you interested in the precision by project vs thesis, which molar masses are known to depend on when it comes to the precision of atomic masses used to calculate them? Then you should learn that almost all atomic masses have the precision of 1 part in reasons for the french revolution essays, 10-thousand, and masters project it’s adequate for all standard uses in this discipline because it’s quite precise and exceeds the purity of many lab reagents. However, this kind of precision is limited by the knowledge of isotopic distributions in constitution, chemical elements. If you need a more accurate value of molar masses, you must define this distribution, and it can be different from the standard one used to compute standard atomic masses.
If your assignment involves these terms, make sure that it’s written according to existing lab report format guidelines. Remember that the isotopic distributions of chemical elements in samples are not always dependent of one another, and this is what may complicate the project, calculation of standard uncertainties in molar masses. One of the most helpful conventions for your lab work is to quote this mass to 2 decimal places for each calculation you make. It will be more accurate than required, but you will succeed to ie mba, avoid rounding mistakes during chemical calculations. These important conventions are usually followed in many tabulated values of a molar mass. Atoms are quite small to allow for any meaningful measurement of specific chemical substances. When working with their meaningful amounts, they must be groups into masters vs thesis the units called moles. You need to know how to calculate a molar mass to be a successful student and get high grades, so find out more about the ie mba essays, following methods. These details are easy to found in fnn coursework, the periodic table of elements, so be sure to locate the one you need and find its number underneath a symbol (it must have decimals). Multiply a relative atomic mass by a molar mass constant (and it’s defined in masters project, one gram per mole). This is how you will convert atomic units to g/mole, but some chemical elements are found in the molecules of two atoms and cornell thesis latex class more. This means that you need to find their relative atomic masses to calculate molar masses. To achieve this goal, it’s necessary to multiply them by a molar mass constant, and then multiply the result you get by two. What if you need to calculate the molar mass of specific chemical compounds when it comes to your writing a definition essay or any other academic homework?

1-3-1 essay form The issue of authorship (as well as date) of this epistle cannot be settled in isolation. It is vs thesis quite bound up with the issue of authorship for the Fourth Gospel and for 2-3 John. If the same author wrote all four books, there is a strong presumption that they were written at about the same time since the style of writing, themes, and fnn coursework, outlook are so similar. Further, there is the presumption that one author did write all four books for, as B. H. Streeter remarks, “The three epistles and the Gospel of John are so closely allied in masters vs thesis diction, style, and general outlook that the fnn coursework, burden of proof lies with the person who would deny their common authorship.” 1 Still, there are some scholars who dispute that there was one author for all four books, and their arguments need to be heard. We shall deal with them only in passing, however, since there is still something of a general consensus on the matter, even if not all are agreed that John the vs thesis, apostle was the fnn coursework, author. There are possible allusions to 1 John in masters vs thesis Clement of Rome, Ignatius, and pseudo-Clement (in his 2 Corinthians ), but these are all doubtful. 2 More probable are allusions in the Didache, Barnabas, Hermas, Justin Martyr, the Epistle to essay name, Diognetus , Polycarp, and Papias.
Undeniable are allusions/references to 1 John by Irenaeus, Tertullian, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Dionysius, and the Muratorian canon. Guthrie well summarizes the data: This evidence is sufficient to show that from project very early times the epistle was not only fnn coursework treated as Scripture but was assumed to be Johannine, in spite of the masters, fact that no specific claim to this effect is essays uncertainty made by the writer himself. Masters! This strong tradition cannot easily be set aside, especially as no alternative theory of authorship was suggested in dbq essay the early church… 3. There are three pieces of evidences which suggest that John the masters project, apostle wrote this epistle: (1) the writer claims to cornell class, be an eyewitness of the earthly life of Christ (1.1-3); (2) he speaks with an air of authority—“he clearly expects not only to be heard, but to masters project, be obeyed”; 4 and (3) the similarities of thought and verbal expression to the Fourth Gospel are so striking as to suggest that the essays tips, same author penned both. As Robert Law quipped, “On internal grounds, it would appear much more feasible to assign any two of Shakespeare’s plays to different authors, than the vs thesis, Gospel and the First Epistle of constitution ‘St. John.’” 5. Nevertheless, even if presumption is on the side of common authorship, there are two types of arguments against this: (1) some dispute that the same author wrote both the Gospel and 1 John; and (2) some dispute that the same author wrote 1 John and project, 2-3 John. 6 Rather than rehashing material found elsewhere in this essay, we wish to cornell, center our discussion on two items: (1) Did the same author write both the project, Gospel of John and latex class, 1 John? and masters, (2) Did the same author write 2 John and fnn coursework, 3 John?
On the assumption that John the apostle wrote the Gospel bearing his name, 7 if we can answer in the affirmative to masters project vs thesis, these two questions, then apostolic authorship can thereby be assumed for these three epistles as well. a. Did the Same Author Write the Fourth Gospel and the First Epistle? Although, as Guthrie points out, common authorship is “disputed by only a minority of fnn coursework critics,” 8 it is a distinguished minority, including such notables as C. H. Dodd, Raymond Brown, R. Bultmann, M. Vs Thesis! Dibelius, and C. K. Barrett. In particular, the work of Holtzmann, Dodd, and Brown have promoted the view of disparate authorship. Our critique of essays it will come in vs thesis two waves: first, the arguments of essay magazine Robert Law (still a classical refutation, in my view), and secondly, our own arguments against Brown’s evidence. (1) Robert Law gives one large piece of positive evidence (viz., verbal and thought agreements between the two works), followed by several counter-arguments against the negative evidence. First, positively, there are coincidences of verbal expression as well as coincidences of thought—both those which are peculiar to the Fourth Gospel and 1 John and project vs thesis, those which are characteristic of these two documents. 9 Law’s conclusion about the remarkable coincidental agreements is a sober assessment: From the facts so far adduced, either of two conclusions is inevitable—that the Gospel and name, the Epistle are from the same pen, or that the one or the masters project vs thesis, other of them is the uncertainty, work of his predecessor that he unconsciously reproduces its thoughts and its phraseology, even to the minutest mannerisms. The former is the natural hypothesis. Strong evidence will be required to set it aside in favour of the latter. 10.
Secondly, negatively, there are differences both of a verbal and conceptual nature. Some of masters project vs thesis these differences are quite striking. For example, ??? occurs nearly 200 times in the Gospel, but not once in the epistle. Yet, “in the case of ??? , the constitution dbq essay, discrepancy is only apparent, is rather, indeed, a point of real similarity; for, in the Gospel, it is used only in narrative, no occurrence of it being found, e.g., in chapters 14-16.” 11 Many examples of a similar nature could be compared. Even Brown concedes that the verbal differences are not weighty: “the variation of minute stylistic features between GJohn [Gospel of John] and I John is not much different from the variation that one can find if one compares one part of GJohn to another part.” 12. The differences in thought seem more significant to most scholars today. Law catalogs seven such differences, 13 three of which seem to be quite significant: (a) the Gospel is christocentric while the epistle is theocentric; (b) the atoning character of the masters vs thesis, death of Christ is essays tips much clearer in the epistle than in masters project vs thesis the Gospel; and (c) the eschatology between the two seems to be different: the Gospel tends toward a realized eschatology (in which believers have passed out of judgment into life), while the epistle imbibes in a more futuristic eschatology. These same points are rehashed by Brown, who argues with some force that “the theological differences listed above cannot be denied…” 14. Law’s response to these is, generally speaking, masterfully done. He argues, for example, regarding the first objection that “in the Gospel we find passages as strongly Theocentric as any in thesis latex the Epistle… On the other hand, the epistle contains passages which are as strongly Christocentric as any in the Gospel.” 15 Still, the emphasis in each is generally different, and Law rightly (in part) notes that such difference is due to the fact that “the one is a biography of the masters project vs thesis, Incarnate Word, the constitution, other, we may say, a biological study of the Divine Life itself.” 16 Still, there are some weaknesses in his approach, for although one might not be able to detect any contradictions between the two works, there still does seem to be a difference in outlook.
Could this be the work of one author? We will address the question of atonement and masters vs thesis, eschatology in for the french revolution essays the next section. (2) In addition to these arguments, Brown argues that the life situation presupposed in the two works is different. In particular, he notes that (a) the audience has changed (the Gospel is designed to strengthen/establish faith in project Christ; the epistle, to give assurance to those who are presupposed to be believers); and (b) the adversaries have changed (“the Jews” in the Gospel to “those who went out from us” in the epistle). Thesis Latex! Brown argues from this evidence that “the least that it implies is that GJohn and I John were not written at the same time to the same group by the same man.” 17 Brown himself believes that the masters project vs thesis, two were written at different times by essays on relational uncertainty different men, though he readily admits that the differences he notes cannot prove this. It is our contention that not only can these differences be explained on the hypothesis of the masters project vs thesis, same author, but that they can most easily be explained if one takes into account the ie mba essays, following factors: (a) a change in masters project domicile for essay magazine the author, rather than a (major) change in audience; (b) the epistle was written at a later time, when a futuristic eschatology would seem more appropriate; (c) the adversaries had indeed changed, but this is due primarily to the author’s better acquaintance with the masters project, audience, rather than to a change in author; and (d) the emphasis on the atoning work of reasons for the french Christ was due to the impact of the apostle Paul. Although much of this has been argued (or at least hinted at) in project vs thesis our discussion of the Fourth Gospel, an overarching reconstruction is still needed. We will deal seriatim with Brown’s five arguments, all the while demonstrating an alternative view which seems to fit the data equally as well, if not better. First, not much imagination is needed to essays tips, come up with a reason for project vs thesis the shift from thesis christocentricity to masters, theocentricity. Law takes one approach, viz., diminishing the differences.
Although it is true that the Gospel has its theocentric moments and the epistles its christocentric ones, the general impression is that there is fnn coursework indeed a difference in project emphasis between the two. 18 If, however, the author is now combating a new opponent in the epistle—one he did not encounter in the Gospel—then the cornell latex class, shift is understandable. In his Gospel his opponent was “the Jews” and his objective was to prove that Jesus was the Christ, God in vs thesis the flesh. Constitution Dbq Essay! In his epistle the opponent already embraces a high Christology. They are not “Jews,” but, most likely, second-generation (professing) Christians who have gone too far with their Christology.
By separating Christ from the flesh, they have removed mortal man from God. Masters Vs Thesis! John now reminds his audience that only those who embrace the theanthropic person embrace God. In a sense, we might say that in the Gospel John needed to show the divine face of the for the revolution, Son; in the epistle, he needed to demonstrate the ‘human’ face of the Father. 19 The change in opponent, then, readily accounts for the shift from christocentricity to theocentricity. Second, the atoning character of the death of Christ in the epistle takes on Pauline proportions. “‘He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins’ … has a more Pauline ring than any utterance of the Fourth Gospel…” 20 The very statements of Christ’s atoning work (2.2) sounds very Pauline: “He is our propitiation” ( ??????? ). 21 Further, God/Christ are “righteous” ( ??????? ) throughout this epistle (1.9; 2.1; 3.7), and usually in relation to the forgiveness of the Christian. This, again, is quite Pauline. Masters Project Vs Thesis! Such language would hardly be surprising if John had moved to Ephesus (as ancient testimony universally suggests) recently —i.e., between the writing of his Gospel and the epistle. What is more remarkable than John’s picking up Paulinisms is that commentators rarely ask why John would move to fnn coursework, Ephesus if this had been Paul’s special domain. Project Vs Thesis! Further, what catalyst would prompt him to do so? We shall pursue this question under “Occasion,” but suffice it to say that John’s more Pauline-like expressions in the epistle are understandable if the author moved from Palestine to Ephesus between the writing of the Gospel and dbq essay, the epistle.
22. Masters! Third, the eschatological outlook is indeed different between the two books. Certainly the staple of tips Dodd’s evidence for realized eschatology comes from the Fourth Gospel. 23 Although there are hints of it in the epistle (just as there are hints of a futuristic eschatology in the Gospel), it is by no means as prominent there, the epistle following apocalyptic/traditional/futuristic eschatological lines more neatly. In our hypothesis a rather simple solution presents itself: the Gospel was written just before the Jewish War began (c. 65 CE), while the epistle was written during it (probably in the latter part).
If John wrote his Gospel to project vs thesis, Paul’s churches of Asia Minor, as we have maintained, and if he wrote before 66 CE, his preoccupation on grounding his new audience’s faith on the historical Jesus (without much attention to his return) is understandable. But once war broke out, there was the possibility that the events of the Olivet Discourse were now being fulfilled in toto . 24 In the midst of this war, John writes to an audience far removed from the ie mba essays tips, battle zone (but not from the eschatological implications which the war might bring worldwide—viz., the Lord’s return) that the antichrist is coming, that many antichrists are already in the world, that it is the last hour, that the Lord’s return is imminent. The difference in eschatological perspective, in fact, is so striking that one seems almost compelled to argue either that two different authors wrote these two books or that there were two different circumstances which brought them about. That the evidence for a date of the epistle in the late 60s is masters project not a Procrustean bed of our own making is obvious from cornell thesis latex class our prior argument that the Fourth Gospel almost certainly was written after Peter’s death (or just before it), but before the Jewish War broke out. 25 Further, the epistle shows other evidence of coming after the Gospel. Masters! 26. Fnn Coursework! Fourth, the audience no longer needs to be convinced of who Jesus Christ is, but needs assurance of their own salvation. Again, this change in the audience is project due to time and on relational, maturity, not necessarily a completely different audience.
In this respect, the masters project vs thesis, Fourth Gospel is essays uncertainty quite similar to Romans in that Paul wished to “preach the gospel to you also who are at Rome” because he had not yet visited them. But with the churches he had established, there was no need to fill an entire letter with the basics (unless defection was perceived to be taking place, as in Galatians), even though there would be reminders laced throughout (cf. 1 Thessalonians). It is not the audience that has changed then, but John’s relationship to them. He writes the project vs thesis, Gospel to those whom he has not yet met (or has recently met); he writes the fnn coursework, epistle to “my little children.” The strategy of establishing faith in one, nurturing it in the other, is perfectly explainable on such a reconstruction. Fifth, Brown argues that the adversaries have changed—from “Jews” to “those who went out from among us.” It could be argued, and with some force, that he has read too much of the masters, community’s Sitz im Leben into essays tips the Fourth Gospel.
27 After all, a Gospel purportedly has something to masters project vs thesis, do with history. Although certainly the needs of the community would be expected, to some degree, to ie mba, shape and limit the contents of masters project a given Gospel, it is too much to say that they created the contents. In fact, one of the interesting things to note about the Fourth Gospel is its several incidental notes 28 which would be largely irrelevant (and not even altogether clear) to a largely Gentile audience. There is the greatest probability, as we have argued earlier, that John kept something of a diary of the life of Jesus as a disciple, shaped the cornell latex class, material into a rough Gospel as the years went by, and then targeted a Gentile audience outside of masters Palestine in the last stage of essays uncertainty revision. 29 If so, then “the Jews” do not necessarily represent a present enemy, but belong to the historical veracity of the masters vs thesis, narrative. Or, if they do represent a present enemy, it would be John’s, while living in Palestine, rather than his audience’s.
On this reading, it is magazine easy to see why the opponents shift in the epistle: John has recently moved to masters project vs thesis, Asia Minor and has encountered them firsthand. Thesis! In sum, since it is true that “the Epistles of masters project vs thesis John stand closer to the Gospel in cornell thesis latex style and content than do any other writings to one another in the New Testament…” 30 , the great probability is that they are penned by the same author. b. Did the Same Author Write All Three Epistles? Again, the vast bulk of scholars holds to this view. Against this are principally two arguments: (a) the author identifies himself as “the elder” in 2-3 John, 31 but no such identification is made in 1 John; and (b) the similarities among all three are so striking that if they are not by a common author, one or more of the documents is by a forger. 32. Briefly, these objections to common authorship can be answered as follows. (a) An author has the right to vs thesis, alter his style of writing, even his own identification, as the occasion warrants. In this instance, it is not insignificant that in 1 John the author addresses his audience as “my little children,” indicating that he was well-known to them, while in 2-3 John such familiarity is absent, necessitating some kind of self-identification. (b) The forgery hypothesis falls shipwreck on the question of motive: Why would anyone do such a thing—especially since none of the three epistles specifically identifies the author with a name? Against forgery we can add a further point: between 1 John and 2 John “there are no verbatim quotations and always minor variants, a fact more consonant with the same author rephrasing himself than a forger… Most of the differences are really instances of the vagaries of Johannine style that one may find even within the same work…” 33.
In sum, we agree with the majority of scholars that the evidence against common authorship is slim. As R. H. Ie Mba Essays! Charles (certainly no arch-conservative!) put it years ago, “The body of evidence in favour of a common authorship of J and (1.) 2. 3. J carries with it absolute conviction.” 34. On the assumption of masters project common authorship for the three epistles and the Gospel of John, if any one of cornell thesis latex these can be dated with relative certainty, the others would naturally fit in closely, since the style, themes, and outlook are so similar. 35 “Most scholars agree that no great interval could have separated the Gospel from the epistles.” 36. Although a good case could be made that all four were written in masters project the last decade of the first century CE (a view held by the majority), a growing number of scholars are voicing the opinion that the Gospel was published before 70 CE. 37 As that is our conviction, and since we have gone over that ground in reference to constitution, the Gospel of John, we will simply assume it here. The question for us is: Which came first, the Gospel or the epistle? It is vs thesis our view that if the Gospel was penned c. 65 CE, then the epistle was written in essays the late 60s (c. 68-69).
The reasons for this view are as follows. First, the Gospel has material which would be largely irrelevant to project vs thesis, the Gentile audience, even though its final form was almost certainly written for dbq essay Gentiles. As we suggested earlier, this argues that John had amassed material for his Gospel, without having a specific audience in mind until the last stage of composition. These remnants, in turn, suggest that the masters vs thesis, Gospel may have been published somewhat hurriedly. Our quite tentative contention is that either the whole Gospel was produced at Peter’s request (with the appendix [chapter 21] added after Peter died) or at reasons, least the appendix was added at Peter’s request, for the sake of Paul’s churches which otherwise did not have an apostolic voice. John brought the Gospel with him to Ephesus in 65 CE and added the appendix (with the project, approbation of the Ephesian elders in 21.24). Hence, he really was not fully aware of his new audience, even though he knew that he wanted to minister to them. 38. Second, the epistle shows signs of having come later. (1) Its eschatology is much more futuristic than the eschatology of the Gospel. Rather than arguing for dbq essay a more primitive eschatology (a view held by Dodd) in project the epistle, if the same man wrote both books and if the constitution dbq essay, first was written before war broke out, this suggests that the epistle was written after 66 CE.
Not only does the language reflect concepts and project vs thesis, even verbiage found in the Olivet Discourse, 39 but there is a tone of fnn coursework urgency found in this letter which is lacking in the Gospel. The best external cause for this shift in vs thesis eschatological perspective would have been the Jewish War. 40 Further, the war would not yet have culminated, otherwise there would almost certainly have been a let-down in eschatological expectation. 41 (2) There is an obvious familiarity with the audience which seems to be lacking in the Gospel. Indeed, if tradition is ie mba essays correct that John 21.24 is a commendation by project the Ephesian elders of the veracity of the Gospel (or at least of the truth of chapter 21), this implies that John was largely unknown to his audience. Latex Class! Such could not be said of the epistle, for the author refers to his audience as “my little children.” (3) 1 John 2.19 also seems to imply that some time had elapsed from the time John had come to know his audience, for the opponents had left the church. This statement (“they went out from us”) suggests that John had been acquainted with the masters vs thesis, audience long enough to have not only established a relationship with them, but even to have established a relationship with those who defected. This text, in fact, suggests that 1 John was written after 2 John, for the heretics in 2 John were itinerant preachers who were still considered part of the name, Church. 42 Although this is subtle and capable of masters other interpretations, it seems likely that 1 John was written some short time after 2 John.
In sum, we would date 1 John after the Jewish War broke out, but before it was concluded. John must be given some amount of time to know his audience and for the heretics to have left the congregation. Hence, the for the essays, epistle should probably be dated after 2 John. A date of masters project vs thesis c. Essays! 68-69 CE seems to be the best guess. The issue of audience, place of writing, and form of the epistle are bound up together. Since this letter sounds very much like a homily, lacking the masters project, typical features of a letter, there is the distinct possibility that it was intended to function in this manner to some degree. Fnn Coursework! It may well have been a circular letter to a fairly restricted circle. Guthrie has a succinct discussion which is worth quoting: The most satisfactory explanation is that I John was written to a group of people, possibly in more than one Asiatic community, with whom the author was personally acquainted and who were threatened with the same infiltration of false teaching.
The following reasons have led to the widely-held view that Asia was the destination of this epistle and of 2 and 3 John: the external tradition associates the Gospel with John at masters project vs thesis, Ephesus; the essay magazine, association of the Johannine literature with the Apocalypse would also suggest Asia Minor; the gnosticizing teaching reflected in these epistles is project strongly connected with this area. Moreover, the earlier known use of I John comes from the same area (i.e., in Polycarp’s epistle). 43. French Revolution! Two points need to be added to this summary: (1) If John was in Ephesus at the time of composition, it is probable that Ephesus was not the destination of project vs thesis this letter. Rather, it was sent to several of the churches in the surrounding areas. Latex Class! 44 Almost surely one such church would have been at Colossae, for masters vs thesis the same kind of heretics were condemned in Paul’s letter to the Colossians just a few years earlier. (2) The audience was almost certainly made up mainly of Gentiles.
Not only is this seen in the kind of heresy which is fought (antinomian, docetic—neither of ie mba which was found among Jewish Christian sects), but the epistle ends with the masters project, warning, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols” (5.21), an admonition which has great relevance for Gentile Christians, almost none for Jewish Christians. 45. The immediate occasion for this epistle is french that the false teachers had left the church (2.19), but were harassing the church and enticing it from a position outside. Project! 46 John’s audience needed reassurance that what they had embraced—viz., that Christ had come in the flesh—was true. John assures his audience of this truth—as well as the truth of the Gospel in general—on two grounds: (1) he was an eyewitness to Christ (1.1-3), and constitution, (2) the Spirit bore witness to masters project, their spirit that these things were true (2.20, 27). 47 But the occasion was not just polemical; John had an edificatory objective as well. Thus the almost monotonous refrain “I have written to you in dbq essay order that/because…” The purpose statement in vs thesis 5.13, on the analogy of fnn coursework John’s Gospel, would seem to be the most encompassing one: “I have written these things to you in order that you—that is, to those who believe in the name of the Son of God—might know that you have eternal life.” 48. First John is, in many ways, a smorgasbord of theological concepts. Vs Thesis! It is virtually impossible to for the french revolution, construct a convincing and decisive outline, and its themes/purposes are everywhere mentioned (cf., e.g., 1.3, 4; 2.1, 12, 13, 14, 21, 26; 5.13), yet no unifying theme or purpose can be easily construed from project vs thesis them. Further, the occasion for the writing of this letter also must have its say: false teachers had left but were harassing and enticing the church (2.19). In our approach, a combination of the occasion (2.19) and last purpose statement (5.13) 49 yields the most satisfactory results: “Assurance of salvation in the midst of opposition.” Although this book is called a letter, it reads much more like a homily, since it lacks the salutation and closing which were characteristic of ancient Greek letters.
John begins this book by offering evidence of the reality of the incarnation—namely, he was an eyewitness to it (1.1-2). The purpose of this proclamation is then given: mutual fellowship and joy (1.3-4). Then, John jumps into the body of his book, a book with eight major sections (nine, if the prologue is counted)—all of which are difficult to outline and separate from one another. In almost every section, themes that are key to other sections are found. Further, there is a distinct repetition of crucial themes, especially love, assurance, and false teachers . The construction of thesis class this book is analogous to someone throwing four or five stones into a pond within close proximity of each other: after a short time the masters, ripples from one stone overlap with the ripples from another so that all lines become blurred. As such, it is next to impossible to outline that style of argument in a linear fashion. What is needed is a geometrical design! In the first section John demonstrates how fellowship is motivated by cornell latex what God has done for us (1.5–2.17). This is roughly similar to Paul’s typical first half of project letters in on relational which he articulates the vs thesis, indicatives of the faith. John looks at fellowship from essays tips five angles. (1) The basic principle of fellowship is that since God is light believers are to walk in the light (1.5-10), though whether this means moral light or simply transparency is difficult to masters project, tell (though most commentators insist on moral light, I find Law’s defense of transparency the most satisfying view; in essence, God expects honesty [=transparency] of his children as the basis for holiness). Cornell! (2) Fellowship with God is possible even when we sin (cf.
1.7) because of the atoning work of Christ (2.1-2). Masters! (3) Fellowship is demanded because of this provision, and is motivated by this principle—and anyone who claims to know God but does not obey his commands is a liar (2.3-11). (4) Fellowship with God is possible only for cornell thesis class genuine believers, for they have been forgiven (justification) and have overcome the evil one (sanctification) (2.12-14). (5) Finally, fellowship with God is squelched when believers give in to masters project, the impulses of the flesh; hence they are warned not to reasons for the essays, love the project, world (2.15-17). The second section involves a natural transition, for John had just finished discussing the constitution dbq essay, impulses of the flesh as standing against love for God; now he turns to a concrete example of this: false teachers (2.18-27). He will deal with false teachers in two major sections and masters project, it is quite frankly difficult to see how the second section adds substantially to constitution, the content of the vs thesis, first. But it must be remembered that this book is a Jewish homily (even if clothed in Greek garb), in reasons for the french revolution essays which the author is fond of repeating the same ideas and motifs over and over again. 50 John begins this section with an eschatological note: “It is the last hour” (2.18). If so, then believers should expect false teachers (antichrists) to arise.
John has located them. He gives three proofs that the false teachers are indeed false: (1) socially: they abandoned the church and formed their own group (2.19), (2) doctrinally: they deny that Jesus is the Christ (2.20-23); and (3) spiritually: believers have the anointing of the Spirit to guide them in recognizing these false teachers (2.24-27). The rise of these “antichrists” is an obvious indicator that believers are in the last hour. This is the dark side of the eschaton. The third section reveals the bright side of the eschaton: since we are in the last days, our hope of Christ’s imminent return should produce godly living (2.28–3.10). Vs Thesis! John first articulates how such an eschatological hope should produce holiness (2.28–3.3). Then, without marking that his discussion is still in the same vein, he gives a proleptic view of sanctification (3.4-10)—that is, he gives a hyperbolic picture of believers vs. unbelievers, implying that even though believers are not yet perfect, they are moving in dbq essay that direction (3.6, 9 need to masters, be interpreted proleptically), while unbelievers are moving away from truth (3.10; cf. 2.19).
Thus, John states in an absolute manner truths which are not yet true, because he is speaking within the cornell class, context of eschatological hope (2.28–3.3) and masters, eschatological judgment (2.18-19). Magazine! The fourth section now addresses assurance more explicitly than had been done previously (3.11-24), though this is hardly a new topic. John will outline two bases for assurance in this epistle: love and faith. He will also address love as a major motif twice, though on project, the second occasion he will relate it more to sanctification than to justification. John begins this fourth section by defining what love is not, using the example of Cain (3.11-15), followed by a definition of constitution dbq essay what love is, using the vs thesis, example of on relational uncertainty Christ (3.16-17). But this is not mere academia, for with the masters project vs thesis, definition comes obligation: because Christ laid down his life for us, we ought to lay our lives down for each other (3.16-17). Essay Magazine! After this definition, John addresses our subjective apprehension of this truth, viz., the witness of the Spirit (3.18-24).
Even if our own feelings tell us that God does not love us, “God is greater than our hearts” (3.18-20); further, the indwelling Spirit constantly reminds us that we are God’s children, giving us confidence before God (3.21-24). In the vs thesis, fifth section John once again returns to the false teachers (4.1-6). Fnn Coursework! He makes a natural transition between the two sections, for masters project vs thesis not only does the Spirit who dwells within us testify to our status before God, the same Spirit also testifies to the deception of the on relational uncertainty, heretics. Believers are exhorted to test the spirits (of prophets) with two tests: external (doctrine) and internal (witness of the masters vs thesis, Spirit). Cornell Thesis Latex! The doctrinal test is a simple question: Has Jesus Christ come in the flesh (4.1-3)? The spiritual test ends up being just as simple: Do the prophets heed John (4.4-6)? This question can be asked because John is masters project vs thesis God’s spokesman (4.6).
The sixth section once again picks up the motif of love (cf. 3.11-14), only this time the emphasis is on sanctification more than assurance of salvation (4.7-21). This love is essays tips shown in Christ’s death (4.7-12; cf. 3.16-17), which in turn is witnessed by the Spirit as a display of project God’s love (4.13-16a; cf. John 3.16). Once God’s love is truly grasped—both by the evidence of ie mba tips history and the witness of the Spirit—it necessarily removes all fear, for “perfect love casts out fear” (4.16b-18). Masters Project! And once we grasp the truth of this perfect, divine love, we should be motivated to love our brothers (4.19-21). In the seventh section John returns to assurance, though he now bases it on faith more than on essays tips, love, though the two are intermingled throughout this section (5.1-12). Once again, the twin themes of external basis and internal basis are prevalent. The external basis of assurance is faith (creed) and love (conduct) (5.1-2). The result of this productive faith is that the true believer overcomes the world (5.3-5).
The internal basis is the witness of the masters project vs thesis, Spirit (5.6-12)—a witness within our hearts (5.9-10), borne by the Spirit who is true (5.6). To what does he bear witness? The truth of the creed (5.11-12; cf. 5.1). John concludes his epistle with a reminder of cornell thesis Christ’s present work, advocacy of our standing before God (5.13-21). This advocacy gives believers certainty of salvation (5.13), confidence in masters project vs thesis their prayers (5.12-15), and concern for sinning brothers—to the point that they themselves become intercessors, just as Christ is an intercessor (5.16-17). Finally, John restates many of his themes—e.g., the conduct of the essays, believer (5.18), assurance of salvation (5.19), truth about Christ (5.20), and project, implicit denial of the heretics’ doctrines (5.21). It is significant that even Brown, who argues against common authorship, agrees with this dictum. 2 See Raymond Brown, The Epistles of John (Anchor Bible), 6-9, for a discussion. Although Ignatius does not apparently quote from/allude to 1 John, he almost certainly knew of the Gospel of cornell thesis class John. 3 Donald Guthrie, Introduction to the New Testament (rev. ed.), 859.

Of course, in Law’s day unity of authorship for essays uncertainty Shakespeare’s plays was assumed! 6 In this case, common authorship for 2-3 John is almost always assumed true, since the length, style, opening and closing, and identification of the author as “the elder” all point rather decisively in masters project this direction. It is precisely because 1 John does not so identify its author that some have disputed common authorship among these three letters. 7 See our discussion of the cornell class, authorship of the Fourth Gospel. Project! 11 Ibid., 345-46. Fnn Coursework! It should be noted that this is masters true except for the narrative “seams” in these three chapters. 12 Brown, The Epistles of John , 24. 14 Brown, 28. On Relational Uncertainty! Cf.
25-28 for his arguments. Masters Vs Thesis! 16 Ibid., 356 (italics added). 18 Law’s argument aptly illustrates that there is no contradiction, but it still does not explain the essays, different emphases well. Further, it could be argued that his classical biography/biology distinction is more rhetoric than substance, for is not Christ our life as well as our example? If one were to vs thesis, compare this with Paul’s writings, he would note, for example, a curious lack of reference to “in God,” while his main epistles are replete with references to “in Christ.” Thus, although Law is moving in constitution the right direction, I do not feel that he has completely answered the problem. 19 Cf. 1 John 2.9-11; 3.14-18; 4.7-12; and 4.20 (“the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen”). All these references connect love for each other with spirituality. From this it seems that the opponents in this letter, in the least, did not allow their theology to affect their lives.
Or to masters vs thesis, put it another way, if God did not come in the flesh, they need not be concerned about flesh and blood either. John’s point, on the other hand, is that one cannot be so spiritual that he neglects/denies the physical aspects of reality—either for thesis class Christ or for project one’s fellow Christian. 21 The cognate, ?????????? , is used only twice in the NT, once by Paul (Rom 3.25) and once by the author of Hebrews (9.5), whom we have argued is an associate of Paul’s. 22 This is not to deny a strong strain of Paulinisms in the gospel, for that too was shaped/occasioned by the need to communicate to Paul’s churches in Asia Minor. 23 It is not insignificant that this is the dbq essay, main argument Dodd used to demonstrate disparate authorship for the Gospel and masters, epistle, for the epistle largely lacks this same perspective. Essay Name! 24 What confirms that John’s Gospel was written before the war started, rather than during it (assuming that a date up to 70 CE is correct) is project vs thesis that it lacks the Olivet Discourse, and a generally futuristic eschatology. For other arguments, see our discussion of the revolution, Fourth Gospel. Vs Thesis! 25 See discussion in John. 26 This will be discussed under date. 27 Not only Brown, but the vast bulk of scholars do the same.
One could read just about any commentary on John 9.22 to see this. 28 See discussion in John. 29 One might liken the process to a writer who has a manuscript ready to go but is lacking a publisher. When one is reasons for the essays found, certain changes are made to suit his needs, with the result that not a few extraneous remnants are left intact. 30 I. H. Marshall, The Epistles of John (NICNT), 33. 31 If 2-3 John are not by the apostle, “John the elder” (mentioned by Papias) is the normal candidate next in line. Vs Thesis! Although there is some credibility for this with reference to Revelation, almost none exists for 2-3 John precisely because the fnn coursework, language is so similar to that of 1 John. 32 There is a third objection to masters, common authorship which Moffatt raises: 2-3 John involve “several resemblances to Pauline language” which are absent from 1 John (J. French Revolution! Moffatt, An Introduction to the Literature of the New Testament , 479-81).
But the reverse phenomenon is also true: 1 John resembles Paul in certain points where 2-3 John do not. Again, in our hypothesis, Pauline resemblances in these letters would be due to John’s move into Pauline circles in masters Asia Minor, for the purpose of personally picking up the ministry that was left behind after Paul died. (Whether the essays on relational, resemblances are conscious or subconscious or whether John employed an amanuensis is a question worth pursuing, but beyond the scope of this essay.) 33 Brown, 17, 19. Incidentally, this same argument can be used to support unity of authorship between Ephesians and Colossians. Masters Vs Thesis! 34 R. H. Charles, A Critical and Exegetical Commentary on fnn coursework, the Revelation of project John (2 vols.; ICC) l:xxxvii. 35 This contrasts with the Revelation, which almost certainly has to have been written by a different author or, if by the same author, written at a different time. 37 See our discussion of John. 38 See discussion in for the essays John for details. 39 Although John uses terms such as “antichrist” instead of “false Christs,” the project vs thesis, concept is quite similar. Further, he speaks of on relational this being “the last hour,” of our hope of masters project his return, and constitution, of judgment on the world. All of these are themes which, though not missing in the Gospel entirely, are greatly suppressed in favor of a more realized eschatology.
40 This parallels, to some degree, the masters vs thesis, raison d’etre of the writing of 2 Peter and Jude. 41 Once the war with Rome was over, there would in fnn coursework all probability arise speculation as to masters vs thesis, whether Christ would indeed return. As long as the war was going on, the eschatological hope would most likely be felt by all Christians. 42 In this I am not suggesting that both epistles were sent to exactly the fnn coursework, same audience, but that there was a general consensus in 1 John that they were known in the region to have defected, while in 2 John John warns his readers of heretics who were still itinerating among the Asia Minor congregations. Indeed, there is the possibility (as more than one commentator has suggested) that 2 John was the tool which unmasked these heretics, thereby producing the effect spoken of in 1 John 2.19! 44 If our hypothesis about masters Jude’s destination is correct (viz., Ephesus),then there is subtle confirmation here: if both letters were written at about the dbq essay, same time, since the heretics Jude is attacking were apparently different than the project, ones John is attacking (licentious vs. docetic), it is probable that they lived in different areas. 45 The probability of a Gentile audience once again confirms that John has picked up the ministry left in Asia Minor after Paul’s death. In particular, as one reads the Acts, the picture that emerges is that Paul alone among the apostles is actively and intentionally ministering to the Gentiles. 46 See Guthrie, 864-66, for a development of this. 47 Although not often noticed in introductory matters, here is another parallel with Paul’s thought (cf.
Rom 8.16). Another point of interest, though along different lines: the difference between 2 Peter’s appeal and constitution, 1 John’s is that 2 Peter appeals on the basis of an established authority (Paul’s letters—3.15, 16), while John appeals to the inner testimony of the Spirit. One reason for this might be that when Peter wrote there were no apostles left in Asia Minor and hence appeal to project, authority was strongly needed (the same applies to essays, Jude). But when John wrote, since he was an apostle—and since he knew that the heretics did not recognize his authority—appeal was made to an even higher authority. (This also seems to conform to their personalities: Peter lifts Paul up to his level by calling him “brother,” while John takes a more ostensibly humble approach, by submitting his literary/historical efforts to the scrutiny of the masters project, Ephesian elders [John 21.24] and by appealing to the witness of the Spirit over against his own authority.) 48 This again suggests the posteriority of 1 John to John, for the Gospel seems to be more of an invitation to faith, or an establishment of what is the gospel (20.31), while the epistle is more reassuring of those who are perceived to be believers. 49 The last one seems to be most crucial, on the analogy of John’s style in fnn coursework his gospel (20.31).
Of course, he does not give any earlier statements, showing that the analogy may break down at this very point. 50 One of the project, problems with outlining a book such as this is that we too often approach the biblical text from a logical/academic view, rather than from a homiletical/cardial view. This book—as so much of the NT—appeals to the heart more than to latex, the mind. How does one outline the masters project, language of worship? Or a hymn?
Even the title “Argument” which we have euphemistically given to this section of the essay hardly does justice to this document, nor to so much of the Bible. 51 As we suggested under the theme, this book is virtually impossible to outline. John’s thought is simply not nearly as neat and tidy as is Paul’s. Essay! In some respects, John is masters project building his argument via expanding concentric circles of thought, though each new development is not merely an expansion; rather, it is often taking the thought in a new direction, or merely developing one sub-theme. Our outline will accordingly be quite imprecise and artificial, reflecting the somewhat fluid (amorphous?) structure.
